The EDC Nutcracker
Join us this holiday season for a whimsical production of the ever classic Nutcracker as Encore Dance Centre enters their16th season performing this magical story for families and children of all ages. With a cast of over 60 dancers in beautifully detailed costumes, they tell the story of Clara and her Nutcracker to Tchaikovsky's timeless score. You will see dolls come to life, mice and soldiers battling, snowflakes flurrying and the magical Sugar Plum Fairy in the Land of Sweets. With two shows to choose from and set at the beautiful Arcadia Performing Arts Center in Arcadia, it will delight you with perfect holiday magic this holiday season!
Encore's Annual Nutcracker performance is held every December. Auditions for ballet and ensemble roles are held every August, and performance dates are announced to our students in the fall. Participation is optional and is open to any student ages 6 years and up with a minimum of one year dance experience. All ballet roles require a minimum of 2 years of ballet training. Encore's Nutcracker features all styles of dance and everyone who auditions to participate will be cast in Encore's show. Deadlines for sign up are communicated to our students and parents in the summer months.
Costumes are purchased and supplied to you by the studio and remain the property of Encore after the performances. There are no costume fees associated with participating in this show. However, any costume showing wear outside of normal performance circumstances may be subject to a $50 cleaning/sewing fee. This would include severe damage to the costume resulting in sewing for repair, or large make up marks/stains not caused by normal use.
To participate, each student will be required to pay a $450.00 participation fee (subject to change) which includes a performance fee, 2 complimentary tickets, a cast t-shirt and costume clean fee. Each cast member must sell a minimum of 8 performance tickets. There may also be fundraising activities in the months leading up to the performance that cast members must participate in. The participation fee is $50 and is payable at the audition and is non-refundable. The participation fee will be deducted from the total package amount due, and all students who audition will be cast in a part. Encore does offer a monthly payment plan for the Nutcracker, which is paid for in 4 equal installments in September, October, November and December.
NUTCRACKER WITHDRAWAL FEE
Please understand that casting this entire show is a very complicated and time-consuming process for our ballet director and staff. When dancers choose to pull out of the Nutcracker production because they are unhappy with the part(s) they received, it has rippling effect and affects multiple parts in some instances. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, we are implementing a $250.00 withdrawal fee for any dancer that chooses to withdrawal from her/his role(s) after the final cast list has been posted. No exceptions.
